Day of the open enterprise 2009
Past Saturday, the16th of May, the airfield Schönhagen opened its gates for the day of the open enterprise. More than 1000 people visited Schönhagen airfield this day. Even if the weather were absolutely bad on early Saturday morning, the cloud cover tore up about 11:00 clock and it became a wonderful sunny day, on which our visitors used the various offer enthusiastically.
In large groups they crossed the apron to the guidance of the aircraft manufacturer AQUILA. Afterwards the visitors got informed by Mrs. Zerbock and Mr. Röstel about their exclusive airplane CIRRUS - an airplane with parachute.
After an affectionately with many pictures arranged overview of the history of the airfield by Mr. Dieter Kroop, the visitors were pretty astonished at the remarks draw by the representatives of the Lost Squadron Recovery at the forthcoming start of the probably last adventure of aviation, the salvage of five Lockheed P-38 Lightning from the eternal ice of Greenland.
At the remarks about, what is to be found in a flight preparation area and how the various aids are used by pilots, the visitors showed large interest. The inspection of the Tower and the completely special view from up there formed the conclusion of the guidance, accomplished from Heinz Gläßer, Ralf Heinisch and the managing director of the airfield Schönhagen, Dr. Klaus Jürgen Schwahn.
On the apron the visitors could examine Trikes, Gyrocopter, Helicopters, Aircrafts, and a Balloon basket, talk to pilots or enter an airship and used the opportunity fly. Parallel to the main runway gliding took place and everyone who wanted, could be hoisted in air into the silence.
A completely special public magnet was - as expected - the Brandenburger law enforcement helicopter. Where do citizens get the opportunity to talk to the crew about their employments and admire the special equipment. The absolute „public favourite "was however the 'aunt Ju' of the Lufthansa Berlin foundation, which had landed the evening before in Schönhagen and "stayed overnight ". Take offs and landings were just as enthusiastically photographed and admired, as the time before and after the flights, in which spectators could be close to the Ju 52. Due to the enormous demand a third round flight was accomplished spontaneously.
For Mrs. And Mr. Steinchen from Potsdam Saturday was a completely special day. They were the happy winners of the two round flight tickets with the 'Aunt Ju', which was drawn by lots on Friday noon by the airfield Schönhagen with Antenne Brandenburg. An unforgettable experience, as Mrs. and Mr. Steinchen meant after the thirty minutes flight.
The offer on the day of the open enterprise was completed by a delicious barbecue, beverages, beer, coffee and cake, offered by Mrs. Wehmann and her team of the coffee/restaurant Lindbergh, for all the guests. It was a completely successful day with sunshine and many happy, interested visitors, which we would like to say thank you for their visit!
